My struggle to manage my emotions in the saddle was one of the things that set me on this path to assist other riders in developing their mental and emotional skills. There is truth to the words “the place that made me the happiest made me the most miserable.”
I had a trainer once who, when the tears began to flow out of frustration in a lesson (recovering perfectionist, here), said to me, “Don’t you dare cry.” Not very helpful – and I struggled for probably another three years before I set my mind to figuring myself out.
So happy I did, and so happy to be facilitating this learning for others.
